Lucilla knew always, and Nadine knew in her more domesticated moments, that it was homemaking that mattered. Every home was a brick in the great wall of decent living that men erected over and over again as a bulwark against the perpetual flooding in of evil. But women made the bricks, and the durableness of each civilization depended upon their quality, and it was no good weakening oneself for the brick-making by thinking too much about the flood.

LOVE it. :) Are you liking the book? :D
ReplyDeleteYes! I'm halfway finished. It has been slow-going because pre-reading for my Y4 students is usurping a bunch of my book time now, but I try to get at least a bit in each day. Excellent so far.
DeleteWow. That is magnificent! Definitely need to add this to the Future Reads list.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'd love it, Dawn!
DeleteI will definitely add this to my reading list! Excellent quote!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it though? I'm about half way through the book and have found quite a few gems. :)
DeleteOh wow! What a thought! And there in poetic prose is the reason I don't keep up closely with the news!
ReplyDeleteI can only handle so much these days! ;)
