We are now two weeks in to our school year, doing
almost a full schedule. I will be adding in poetry and Bible recitations, Italian with the Form 1 and 2 kids, and clay modeling next week, because we have family visiting and some other appointments keeping us busy over the next few days.
Our Online Orientation for
the CMEC last week was so much fun. It was great to see a bunch of new faces and kick off the school year with mutual enthusiasm and some inspiring thoughts. Our Fall Form Meetings are Monday and Tuesday and I will be sharing (very briefly) about notebooks for each Form. I really enjoy the Form Meetings. They always feel like a jump start to our term!

Thank you for posting! I love the illustrated books. It looks like y'all are having fun. I'm very interested in how you like cmec from ambleside, as I am using ambleside currently. Thank you so much for your peek!
ReplyDeleteI'll be posting here and there about our year with the CMEC. Last year we did a combo of CMEC/AO and it went really well. I am excited to jump in fully now. And I really enjoy also having a hand in shaping the curriculum and resources too. That is really fun for me!
DeleteWhy did you ditch AO? Im curious about CMEC but it's $$$ without any books purchased and without any knowledge of what your $$$ is buying
ReplyDeleteI’m secretly mourning that she ditched AO. LOL Her blog has been such an inspiration to me for AO and CM. I know it will continue to be and I am curious what she shares about CMEC, but I’m guessing the switch is because she has been involved in that group for awhile and they’ve developed their own curriculum. I’m curious what she says. :)
DeleteHi there, ehouse. I did not "ditch" AO -- I certainly don't think of it that way, and I hope no one at AO does either! I hope we are all allowed to adjust how we do things in our own families without it being a comment on the way we have done things before. I appreciate the wonderful and wise ladies behind AO and am friends with so many moms who use and love the curriculum. I can't imagine that changing! Right now, the CMEC is a better fit for our homeschool and I'm excited for the kind of work I am able to do there and the deep friendships I have with the ladies running it too.
DeleteAnd Melissa -- the fact that we both do CM is really the thing that ties us all together! :) So hopefully what I share will still be generally helpful for people using AO or CMEC or whichever curriculum. (Your answer was right on! <3)
DeleteCeleste, Oh absolutely! I know you didn't "ditch" AO like that. It makes sense to me you went in a new direction for your family. I am looking forward to seeing how your years are planned out and what you share. I don't have any plans of leaving AO, but I know I can always glean from any CM mama. Thank you for sharing this blog with all of us. <3
DeleteOh, I knew you meant that light-heartedly, Melissa! You have always been so encouraging. :)
DeleteMaybe it would be helpful to your longtime followers to explain (1) why you left AO and (2) why you went to CMEC and (3) why CMEC would be worth it to someone else (you know about CMEC but there is like no info online about the books etc.) and (4) how one would find out what the books are (since I would hope most of us teachers want to know what the books are and what is in them to know if we want to use them). I hope you know I used ditch, as in quit, changed, etc. Unless I missed it, the wasn't even comment to it... just picked up on the fact that you didn't do your normal AO planning post.
DeleteI did share about my switch more generally in a prior post both here on the blog and on Instagram. I'd rather not make more specific comparisons because I value both programs and don't want to pit them against each other. :) If you'd like to know more about the CMEC, the offerings are listed on the website. It also says on the website that you can email info (at) thecmec.org for samples. If you are interested in more details, I encourage you to reach out there! I honestly am not trying to use my blog to promote the CMEC, so I don't plan to outline why CMEC would be worth it to someone else, etc. -- that is available through their website. As always, I am just sharing what we do in our home here.
DeleteXavier's fancy handwriting is so cute! As are your two girls giggling through their narration. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are all such funny kids -- giggles all day. Sometimes it drives me batty (LOL) but I do appreciate the joy and good humor! :)
