Nature Study Outing: Fall Seed Study

Another rainy day!  We had a smaller group today, so we met at my house to do a little study of seeds.  The kids and I raided our nature table and set out as many different seeds as we had, a couple magnifying glasses and a pocket microscope, a couple seed-identification handouts, and plenty of paper and art supplies.  We talked together about the different kinds of seeds and the trees that they come from, and then they spent a good while working in their nature journals.  It was a great project for an indoor nature study.

fruit - hawthorn, privet, bradford pear
balls - sycamore, sweetgum
black walnut hull
eucalyptus seed capsule
various pinecones, acorns, and pods
